Alyssa Bigbee is a multi-disciplinary artist specializing in dance, circus arts, and writing. She is a storyteller who uses art to raise awareness of social justice issues and educate about civic engagement. Born and raised in Philly, Alyssa began her artistic journey as a street dancer and choreographer. She pursued a degree in Film & Television, where she gained inspiration from Spike Lee to create works that tap into activism. After spending three years in media, she pivoted to community arts, traveling to public schools in Philadelphia to build performing arts programs. During her eight-year tenure, Alyssa produced three Black History plays in collaboration with students and community members, created a performing arts career training program for teens, and developed a dance film festival for high school students.

In 2021, Alyssa graduated from Drexel University with an M.A. in Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling. Her master's thesis, "Virtual Reality in Dance/Movement Therapy," was published by the International Virtual Reality Conference, setting a foundation for the ethical use of technology in the arts.

As a grad student, Alyssa founded Rebel Arts Movement in the Kensington area of Philadelphia to help tackle the opioid crisis. She devoted herself to using movement for wellness with student artists at the University of the Arts for three years before committing to Rebel full-time. She now offers free and sliding-scale programming for families in Philadelphia and continues to use her art for social justice through the co-founding of Black & Indigenous Circus Week. Her work has been featured in Fox News Philly, CBS3, and The Guardian.

In her free time, Alyssa creates content to educate people about local civic government and engages in activism to fight the erasure of Black history. After completing an archival fellowship she is devoted to archival work documenting more "ARTIVISTs" in Philly and developing a podcast with a friend to educate residents about resources in the city of Philadelphia.
