Erik Loyer

Erik Loyer (he/him) makes digital artworks and creative tools that fuse comics and video games with musical performance. He founded the interactive media studio Opertoon in 2008, releasing three narrative-driven titles that have garnered critical acclaim and over half a million downloads. Through Opertoon, Erik originated a pair of digital comics and media composition tools that have been used in classrooms, workshops, and commercial releases. He has designed and developed over a dozen interactive nonfiction works in collaboration with leading scholars, artists, and organizations, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute. Erik’s work has been exhibited in the Americas and Europe, and he has been commissioned by the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He is currently a creative technologist at the regenerative design studio Spherical, crafting interactive media to support the renewal of Los Angeles County’s water infrastructure.
