Steve Pargett

Steve Pargett is a creative strategist, filmmaker, and producer working at the intersection of storytelling, technology, and social impact. His career began in creative media strategy, where he built campaigns and cultural narratives for organizations and movements seeking to shift public perception and inspire change. Over the past decade, he has produced large-scale creative projects and campaigns that center underrepresented voices and push forward urgent conversations about equity and the future.

Pargett is currently producing Blacked Out Dreams, a feature documentary filmed over seven years that follows the coming-of-age journeys of Black youth in Flint, Michigan, against the backdrop of systemic disinvestment. The project reflects his commitment to long-form, deeply embedded storytelling that reveals both resilience and possibility.

In addition to film, Pargett is a Senior Strategist at Dream Machine Innovation Lab, a nonprofit developing programs to educate and prepare communities of color for the wave of exponential technologies—including artificial intelligence—that are reshaping society. Through Dream Machine, he is crafting cultural programming, educational initiatives, and literacy projects that position these communities not only as participants but as leaders in the future of technology.

His work merges narrative craft with emerging media, asking how storytelling can prepare society for technological shifts while ensuring historically marginalized communities are not left behind. Steve believes stories can function as both mirrors and blueprints, shaping how communities imagine themselves and how futures are collectively built.
